The goal of ELIXIR (www.elixir-europe.org) is to address this challenge and establish a European Research Infrastructure for life sciences data in order to make it easier for scientists to find and share data, exchange expertise, and agree on best practices.
ELIXIR-IT is the Italian Node of ELIXIR; its mission is to drive the development of bioinformatics resources in Italy and integrate them into ELIXIR’s pan European service portfolio. ELIXIR is an European Research Infrastructure that brings together life sciences resources from across Europe. These resources include databases, software tools, best practices, training materials, cloud storage and supercomputers.
ELIXIR coordinates these resources so that they form a single infrastructure, which makes it easier for scientists from Academia, Research Institutions and commerce to find and share data, exchange expertise and agree on best practices.
ELIXIR adopts a “Hub and Nodes” organization model: The ELIXIR Hub (Wellcome Genome Campus, Cambridge, UK) operates as the headquarters that coordinates the activities across ELIXIR.
Each of the participating member states of ELIXIR establishes a national ‘Node’, which in turn is a network of organizations that work within a member state.

The team
In January 2019 The University of Turin became part of Elixir IT, which is is the Italian Node of ELIXIR. Its mission is to drive the development of bioinformatics resources in Italy and integrate them into ELIXIR’s pan European service portfolio.
Prof. Raffaele A Calogero is the representative of the University at the General Assembly of Elixir Italy. Dr. Marco Beccuti and Prof. Raffaele A Calogero are the Local Technical Coordinators (LTeCs), which act as connection between Univeristy of Torino researchers and the Elixir Italy node. Any people of the University of Torino can contact the LTeCs to participate to the activity of Elixir. This web site has been prepared to provide information on the activities in which the Torino team is involved. To facilitate the spread of the Elixir activities we have build a team incorporating some of the bioinformatics/OMICs experts present in our University:
